Iwakura Japanese Gardens specializes in the design and construction of custom gardens and landscapes inspired by both traditional and contemporary Japanese aesthetics and techniques. We believe a peaceful, reflective environment can be created in any outdoor space, regardless of size. Each garden we build is a thoughtful composition and balance of artistry, skilled execution, and careful consideration in every element.

Walter Reins is the founder and owner of Iwakura Japanese Gardens, and brings over 25 years of experience in the green industry to every project. A certified arborist and horticulturist, his background spans nursery production, landscape construction, and professional tree care, a depth of knowledge and skillset that informs each garden he designs and builds. He remains personally involved in every project, ensuring a high standard of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Walter has had a lifelong interest in Japanese culture, and lived and worked in Japan as a gardener at a 3-acre private garden. Immersed in daily garden practice, he gained firsthand experience in traditional techniques, design philosophy, and the quiet discipline that defines Japanese gardens. In his time abroad, Walter has visited and studied more than 100 gardens throughout Japan. Those experiences as well as ongoing return visits are the foundation and inspiration for Iwakura Japanese Gardens. His goal is simple and sincere - to create gardens for his clients that offer the same beauty, tranquility, and peace he discovered in Japan.
