Walter Reins is the founder and owner of Iwakura Japanese Gardens, bringing more than 25 years of experience in the green industry to every project. A Certified Arborist and Horticulturist, his background spans nursery production, landscape construction, and professional tree care, a depth of knowledge that informs each garden he designs and builds. He remains personally involved in every project, ensuring a high standard of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Walter has had a lifelong interest in Japanese culture, and lived and worked in Japan as a gardener at a private garden north of Tokyo. Immersed in daily garden practice, he gained firsthand experience in traditional techniques, design philosophy, and the quiet discipline that defines Japanese gardens. In his time abroad, Walter visited and studied more than 100 gardens throughout Japan. Those experiences, along with ongoing return visits, are the foundation and continuing inspiration for Iwakura Japanese Gardens. His goal is simple and sincere - to create gardens for his clients that offer the same beauty, tranquility, and peace he discovered in Japan.
